Isn't that a good enough reason? Not only that, but his last name is Racer. How cool is that? Is it even possible to not like someone with racer as a last name? Yeah, Speed is the best. Go Speed Racer, Go Speed Racer, Go Speed Racer go! _________________ What can I say, they set me up the bomb.

Because he is the most relatable character in the entire series, and this is saying something in a series with as much character development as GitS. He grows realistically and tremendously over the course of the series, until in Solid State Society he is capably taking over field command of Section 9 in light of Major's resignation.
